The freedom. The freedom to express myself in anyway I wish and for it to be accepted in my field. That being amongst other creatives is always so inspiring because we all support each other and give constructive criticism.
When I first had some of my felt badges published in Glamour, I was elated! There’s nothing like seeing your work in print. Seeing my illustration work in the ELLE Hip City Guide was really great because I did all the illustrations, the layout and the animated online version. It’s great when people start to recognise your style.
Oh! Definitely drawing by hand. You can’t recreate lines like that through a computer. Although there is the scanning and clearing up in Photoshop which creates extra work, I think it’s worth it.
My friend Eve Rakow threw the party and she just asked me to right the word “PROM” out and fill it with “prom things”. So that’s all, I added in the speech bubbles because I thought it could look like high school kids gossiping.
Marietjie from Skermunkil is such an inspiration to be around, always having great ideas about things. Heather Moore from Skinny la Minx of course, with her beautiful illustrations, fabrics and ideas. Thaya from Beatnik Bazaar is always so supportive of local designers and her blog is always an inspiration.
To be honest. I don’t care. I love to knit and whether it’s a trend or not, it’s a passion!
I struggled with this for a while and I’ve decided that something simple is best, quite like what I did on Saturday afternoon. Wake up late, get a take away baked croissant from Olympia cafe in Kalk Bay (where I live), a take away cappucino from C’est la vie and walk to Muizenburg beach munching and drinking the two treats. Find a nice spot facing the sea, read some of my book then take a leisurely walk back home listening to my favourite songs. That would be my perfect day.

Lovely post Amber, really inspiring…
I love Lauren’s self-description, the very long long one…lol…It reminds me not to box myself to the job I do…but actually add all my interests when describing myself.
